music

There was no shortage of music growing up in our house as both my parents were professional singers at RTÉ Radio and also performed at the much-lamented late Theatre Royale in Dublin. I first took up a guitar at the age of 14 to learn how to play The House of The Rising Sun (!) but soon started listening to singer songwriters such as Nick Drake, Richard Thompson and Sandy Denny before finding my way back to traditional Irish music where my older bother Fran was already becoming well known for The Voice Squad.

Since then, I’ve played festivals in Belgium, Denmark, Germany, Sweden, Norway, Portugal, Scotland and the UK including a decade playing with Gerry O’Connor and the late Eithne Ní Uallacháin in La Lugh and you might have heard me singing harmonies with Eithne on their 1995 album Brighid’s Kiss.

In New York, I ran a session with Dessie Groarke and Marie Barrett for nearly 20 years in the Heritage in Woodlawn and then later another session at the An Beal Bocht in Riverdale as well as multiple other gigs all over the tai-state area.

I came home during the start of the pandemic in 2020 and since then I’ve settled in Galway.
